In the latest of a series of videos for the Smithsonian’s Freer/Sackler Galleries, Maggie Burnette Stogner films Gerhard Pulverer in Heidelberg, Germany. The “Pulverer Collection” is one of the largest pre-modern Japanese art collections in the world and reveals the inspiration for today’s Manga, Anime, and graphic novels. This latest video focuses on the man behind the collection and the stories behind the extraordinary woodblock prints and books he amassed.
